Workplace Essentials: Digital Technology

About this course

Level 1
Duration: 2-3 hours

Welcome to the Workplace Essentials – Digital Technology course! We live and work in a digital age. We gather and share a lot of information using digital technology everyday. From smartphones and tablets, to computers and automated processing equipment, digital technology is an important part of our work and personal lives.

To keep up in this fast-paced digital world and to be as productive as possible in our digital workplaces, we must develop and improve our digital technology skills.

Digital technology refers to the skills needed to understand and use digital systems, tools and applications, and to process digital information. At work, people use digital technology skills to input, access, analyze, organize, create and communicate information and ideas using computers, software, e-mail, web applications, smart phones, other digital devices.

In this course, we will explore the topic of digital technology and teach you ways to improve your digital literacy to make you a more ‘connected’ employee!
Digital technology involves using digital tools and software; applying security measures to protect the hardware, software and personal data; and understanding and using digital information.

Digital Technology is one of nine skills that are essential for success in work, learning and life. Essential skills form a base for learning other skills and help you to learn through your entire life. They’re used in all occupations and in our daily lives, in different forms and at different levels of complexity.

Digital Technology requires you to use your other essential skills, like problem solving, document use, numeracy and reading. Critical thinking (being able to evaluate information to come to a judgment), is very important when using digital technology and understanding digital information.
